Elton John – Candle in the Wind 1997
Our first nostalgic song is Elton John’s Candle in the Wind, but the 1997 version of it. This song is featured in the single “Something About the Way You Look Tonight”/”Candle in the Wind 1997”. This song is a rewritten and a re-recorded version of the same song, released on September 13, 1997 as a tribute to Princess Diana.
Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You
What many people did not know is that Whitney Houston was not the original singer of “I will Always Love You”, as the song itself was written in 1973 by a singer and songwriter Dolly Parton. However, Whitney’s version was the most known version as it was used as the original soundtrack for The Bodyguard. Whitney’s rendition of this nostalgic song managed to sell around 20 million copies.
USA for Africa – We are the World
In 1985, We are the World was recorded as a charity single sung by the supergroup USA for Africa. This particular song was written by both Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. This song managed to sell around 20 million copies.
Celine Dion – My Heart will Go On
In 1997, there was a very phenomenal movie based on a real event: the sinking of Titanic. In that movie, this particular nostalgic song was chosen as the main theme song to that movie. Nowadays, this song is considered by many people as Celine Dion’s signature song. After all, it managed to sell around 18 million copies worldwide.
Scorpions – Wind of Change
We are sure that you either love this song, or you have heard this song played countless times everywhere. This nostalgic song was recorded for Scorpions 11th studio album in 1990. The lyrics were written during their visit to the USSR, and became a worldwide hit right after a failed coup that brought the Soviet Union down.
Gloria Gaynor – I Will Survive
At first we were afraid to put this song on the list; we were petrified. But we kept thinking on how we could live, without putting this on the list. This nostalgic song is a masterpiece performed by Gloria Gaynor and was released in 1978. The story of the song is about finding personal strength after facing a disastrous breakup.
Toni Braxton – Un-break My Heart
For our last nostalgic song, we were quite conflicted on which we should put on the list. After some consideration, we decided to put this song because it was produced by the legend, David Foster himself. This 1996 song tells the story of a person begging their lover to return and undo the pain they have caused. This song seems to resonate with many listeners as it could sell around 10 million copies worldwide.
