STEM Education in Indonesia?

Back in 2018, the Indonesian Economic Forum of that year was held in Shangri-La Hotel. The theme of that year is “Connection Indonesia; A New Five Year Agenda”. One of the debate points, according to Jaspal Sidhu, was about how important STEM education is in Indonesia because of the engineer shortage we are facing.

But what is STEM education?

STEM education is an education system that focuses on 4 aspects: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Those 4 aspects are then combined and put in use to do some creative assignments such as town design, bridge building, or even renewable energy projects. STEM is well-liked because it basically promotes creative thinking to your child, followed by collaboration and problem-solving. All of those are important skills that they will need to face the digital world.

America is one of the firm believers that STEM education will play a big part in the development of the world from here on out. Other than the USA, many other countries are starting to adopt STEM and assimilate it with their curriculum, and those countries are Finland, Australia, China, Philippines, and Vietnam.

Indonesia is already starting to develop and use this model of learning with the collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). There has been some research regarding science class that utilizes STEM, in which students are asked to design a car by using a balloon as its energy.

While the MInistry of Education is still trying to find a way to utilize STEM into our curriculum, it does not mean that you cannot make your kids enroll in a STEM education class. This time, we are going to list a few STEM-based learning that we think might be good for your kids.

  1. Coding Bee Academy

Coding Bee Academy, as its name suggests, is a STEM education institution that focuses itself in coding for kids of age 5 to 17 years old. The courses they taught are informatics, programming, and STEM; those courses will be taught in a very fun environment that will facilitate your kids study session.

You could find Coding Bee Academy in a lot of places. You could find them in Pantai Indah Kapuk, Kelapa Gading, Gading Serpong, Kemang, Pasar Minggu, and a few other places. For more information, you can visit their website and ask their customer service directly.

  1. Robotics

Robotics is a STEM education institution that has the tagline “Making your kid a world’s best creator” by teaching them how to create robots. Their learning concept is utilizing LEGO Education as a basic tool and letting children learn by having fun.
