It’s Brownie Day! Let’s Celebrate With Delicious Brownies Recipe!

Did you know that in America, they celebrate what is known as National Brownie Day every December 8th? It is said that National Brownie Day started back in the 1800s when the people working at the Palmer House Hotel Chicago made their first brownie recipe. That recipe then changed the entire baking industry.

In order to celebrate the National Brownie Day, you could simply stuff yourself with various brownies. While that seems like a good idea, why not bring it up a notch? Rather than just eating them, how about this time we try to create various kinds of brownies together?

This time, we will provide you with some brownie recipes that we think might fit the occasion, especially with Christmas coming up fast.

1. Blackberry Cheesecake Brownies

If you consider traditional brownies are boring, why not top it off with cheesecake and create a cheesecake brownies? And if that is still not enough, give a splash of fresh blackberry jam on top of the heavenly combinations! The color combination of white cheese and red blackberry jam are also fitting the theme of Christmas!

The total time it will take to make this beautiful cheesecake (according to the recipe) is 1 hour and 15 minutes. With only 10 minutes of preparation, we say that it is worth the time to wait that long!

Before you ask us how many calories this delicious looking brownie has, let us answer it for you: It is fine to have a cheat day once in a while! If you do cheat, we understand! I mean, can you really resist how good the brownies look?

However, you do not need to worry. The brownies created with this brownie recipe only have 144 calories each, far better compared to the usual brownies that have 356 calories. What else is there to love? It is simple, delicious, and more than anything, does not contain that much calories within them! 

3. Salted Caramel Brownies

If you had enough sweetness (we know that it is almost impossible, but hey, it is good to prepare just in case), then this brownie recipe might be the one you need. It could give you the salty taste you craved for, but without turning the entire cake salty. Who would want to eat a totally salty brownies anyway?

Yes, you heard that right! This brownie is a three-layered brownie with traditional brownies, mint filling, and chocolate ganache to finish it off. While it might sound scary to create a three-layered brownies, we can assure you that the steps written on the recipe will be easier to follow than you imagined

5. Double Espresso Brownies

This time, we will give you a brownie recipe that could combine the sweetness of chocolate, and the bitterness of espresso. And double that dose, in case you are in need for some kickers or all-nighters.

While it might sound delicious, you would need some way to get two shots of espresso ready. If you could get that sorted, then the other steps written on the recipe will be a walk in the park for you! You could also add the dose of espresso just in case you would need more caffeine to keep you awake.

Cholesterol and diabetes are some of the most concerning issues when it comes to enjoying a delicious snack. But what if we tell you that there are actually some places in Jakarta that could serve you healthy but ultimately delicious snacks?

This time, we are going to tell you some places that serves healthy snacks in Jakarta! These healthy snacks varies from smoothies, salads, and juices so you can pick any of them that might suit your taste and get ready to snack without worry!


SNCTRY is a health bar located on the 3rd floor of Lotte Shopping Avenue, Karet, Jakarta. In this cafe, they serve healthy snacks such as salad bowl and smoothies. The unique part is that most of the ingredients used in SNCTRY’s menu are taken from local farms.

Other than salad bowls and smoothies, they also serve cold pressed juice that are freshly juiced when you order them. They have a few combinations of juice on their menu, such as The Waterfall, a combination of watermelon, strawberries, and mint. There is also Beet It, a combination of beetroot, carrots, ginger, and coconut water.

  1. BNB Terogong

Another place that serves healthy snacks in Jakarta is BNB Terogong that also claimed to be the pioneer of almond milk in Jakarta, and they are very proud of it to the point that they put their almond milk on the smoothies bowl, combine it with their granola, even creating a separate menu just for their almond milk smoothies.

However, almond milk menus are not the only thing BNB Terogong is known for. They are also known for their healthy shots, cold pressed juice, and their unique toast that used real and fresh mix berries and fruit jam. They also serve normal salad with miso ginger dressing and chicken salad.

BNB Terogong is located in Jl. Terogong Raya No.28, Pondok Indah, South Jakarta. Before you go visit, it might be a good idea to check them out on Instagram to see how amazing they would plate their food.

  1. Berrywell

From the other healthy food cafes and restaurants on this list, Berrywell actually has the biggest score in a certain restaurant review website/application, and that might speak volumes about how good this place could be.

Berrywell does not only offers the choice of smoothie bowls and pressed juices, but they also offer chia parfaits, quiche & wraps, and even healthy cakes. But you do not need to worry about your calorie intake, because they put how many calories their food has on the menu.

You are up for something savory? Do not fret, since they have toasted sourdough & sandwiches, wraps, and even zero calorie noodles. Or perhaps you want something heavier? They are ready with their organic rice menus and pasta.

The Benefits of Eating Apple for Your Body

An apple a day keeps the doctors away. At least, that is how the saying goes. But why is it so? Today, on the National Eat a Red Apple Day in the United States, we will explore why eating apples is good for our body.

Before we laid down the benefit of eating apples, some people prefer to peel the skin of their apples. This is not a problem, but if you eat the apple with the skin, you can have at least 4.4 grams of fiber and addition in vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin A, energy, and carbs. We would recommend that you eat your apples with the skin, but if you really dislike it, it is okay to get rid of them!

1. Improve the health of your brain

 A study conducted in 2004 by researchers from Cornell University found that there is a very powerful antioxidant in apples called quercetin. This antioxidant abundant in the apple’s skin is believed to block free radicals that could cause damage to your brain.

Another study conducted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell found that by consuming an apple, we are increasing the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter inside the brain. One of acetylcholine’s tasks is to change and build new structures in the brain.

The higher your acetylcholine is, the better your memories will be. In fact, one way to treat Alzheimer’s disease is by increasing the amount of acetylcholine to help slow down patients’ mental decline.

2. It strengthens your immune system

 Gregory Freund, a professor in the University of Illinois’ College of Medicine said that soluble fibers found in apples could change the personality of immune cells. Soluble fibers will make angry and pro-inflammatory cells into healing and anti-inflammatory cells that will help in recovery from infection.

From the study published in 2010, they held an experiment using laboratory mice served either soluble or insoluble fibers. The result was mice fed with soluble fibers recovered 50% sooner than the other.

3. They can make your skin better

If you want your skin to look better, then eating apples might be one among many solutions you could do. Apples are rich in vitamin C that could help your body create collage, a protein and a crucial component that could be found abundantly in your skin.

The collagen and elastic in the apples are also useful in keeping your skin youthful. It will help lighten the colour of your skin and brighten them up. Apples will also get rid of the pathogens and excess oils on your skin to make it soother.

4. It can reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, and cancer

 A study conducted by The Florida State University found that eating apples could give you a benefit that extends beyond the fiber content. From the study published in 2011, it is known that eating apples for 6 months could decrease LDL or bad cholesterol by 23% which in turn helps to reduce the risk of getting heart disease and stroke.

Usually, a patient suffering from high-cholesterol would have to decrease their cholesterol level by taking medication. While the medication could lower the LDL cholesterol level by 18 to 50%, it also brings many devastating side effects. Apple, meanwhile, could decrease it by 23% without bad side effects.

However, it does not stop there. Another study in Hawaii found that there is a correlation between the risk of lung cancer and the consumption of apples. The higher your apple consumption level is, the lower the risk of getting lung cancer. The risk would decrease to 40-50%.

5. It helps your diet

Previously, we mentioned that apples have a high soluble fiber that could strengthen your immune systems. However, it is not the only benefit of soluble fiber. They are also recommended for people who want to lose weight, as the fiber attracts water and creates a gel that slows down digestion, which in turn makes you feel fuller for a longer amount of time.

From a previous study by the Florida State University, Dr. Bahram H. Arjmandi also found that dried apples could reduce weight in women up to 3.3 lbs. on average despite having 240 extra calories each day.


The saying of how eating apples could keep the doctors away might be old. However, that saying stays true even now with how many benefits an apple could give to your body; to the extent that some scientists dubbed them as a “miracle fruit”. So what are you waiting for? This time, our activity could be a good idea to have fun, introduce, and let your kids enjoy the freshness of apples. What we are going to do is to carve out a few shapes out of apples, and let the kids assemble the pieces back to the apples.

In order to do this activity, you would need:

  • Apples
  • Knives

The steps you need to do are:

  1. Prepare a few apples
  2. Create puzzle pieces by cutting some shapes into the apple
  3. Mix the puzzle pieces together
  4. Serve it to your kids

There are a few things you could do to maximize your kids’ learning:

  •  If your kids are learning about certain shapes, make sure the puzzle pieces you create are the same shape, only differ in size.
  • If you want to increase difficulties, add the number of apples
  • You can add apples with different colors to make it more fun

After your kids finished assembling the puzzle, you can eat the apples together with them!
